Situated in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park with an extensive coastline, the Community of Nolton & Roch is a wonderful place to live.

The Community is steeped in history, as is easily witnessed by historic and iconic buildings such as Roch Castle, St Mary’s Church, Roch Mill and St. Madoc’s in Nolton. The area has a clear sense of history and heritage that is a source of community pride and provides a strong sense of local identity. Two hundred years ago this area was a hive of coal mining activity producing the finest anthracite that was used extensively by the British Navy. There remains little evidence of this industrial past; the main industries to-day are agriculture and tourism. Newgale marks the western end of the historic Landsker Line, which follows the Brandybrook valley where there are beautiful woodland walks alongside the river. This line, which used to be heavily fortified, traditionally separated the southern English speaking area from the northern Welsh speaking one.

The coastline, which can be appreciated in its totality from the Pembrokeshire National Park Coastal Path, is spectacular and boasts three major beaches at Druidstone Haven, Nolton Haven and Newgale. Visitors receive a warm welcome and are spoilt by the range of activities on offer, whether it’s surfing, kite surfing, land yachting, kayaking, coastering, fishing, pony trekking, walking or simply enjoying the good food and drink available in the local hostelries.

A couple of miles from the coast, the village of Roch is the hub of the Community with a popular and well used village hall and a primary school which offers an excellent education much appreciated by parents in the Community and surrounding villages. With an innovative building scheme for affordable housing under way, and plans for a new community hub to replace the old Roch Gate Motel, the Community enjoys not only a fascinating history, but also bright prospects for the future.
